Podnětem pro zavedení BIM do stavebního průmyslu ve Velké Británii bylo přesvědčení vládních úředníků, že to povede ke zlepšení výkonů a snížení nákladů. Většina velkých britských poradenských a dodavatelských organizací se snaží BIM integrovat do svého podnikání. Tyto organizace si také začínají uvědomovat, že BIM je proces a ne pouhá technologie, a tudíž hledají způsoby, jakými lze strategii BIM pojmout a uplatnit. Tato přehlídka bude shrnutím výzkumu na BIM Akademii během posledních tří let a podá rámcový přehled o tom, jak by se mělo podnikání přizpůsobit a úspěšně tak BIM implementovat.
In the United Kingdom, the deployment of BIM throughout the construction industry has been given major impetus by the government’s belief that it will improve efficiency and reduce costs. The majority of large UK consulting and contracting organisations are striving to integrate BIM into their businesses. The realisation that BIM is a process and not just a technology is beginning to be understood by these organisations and they are looking for ways in which they can understand and measure their BIM deployment strategy. This presentation will outline research work carried out at the BIM Academy over the last three years, and proposes a framework for understanding how a business might adapt its practices to improve their BIM deployment success.

Profesor Stephen Lockley je profesorem informačního modelování (BIM) na Northumbria University a profesorem informatiky v architektuře na Newcastle University ve městě Newcastle upon Tyne ve Velké Británii. Zároveň je na Northumbria University výzkumným ředitelem BIM Academy. Profesor Lockley se již přes třicet let zabývá problematikou IT ve stavebnictví, výzkumu a vývoji. V současnosti se zaměřuje především na oblast informačního modelování budov a souvisejících otevřených standardů. Aktivně spolupracuje se zástupci stavebního průmyslu a zabývá se modelováním procesů a pracovních postupů v prostředí BIM. V minulosti zastával také funkci výkonného ředitele Britské královské komory architektů (RIBA) pro výzkum a inovace.
I have worked for over 30 years in the area of IT solutions for the construction sector, researching, developing and commercialising software solutions. Currently my main area of expertese is in the research and development of Building Information Modelling tools with a clear focus on industry standards, specifically the Industry Foundation Classes. I am actively engaged in research in the area of process and workflow modelling using BIM technologies and lead out research in the areas within the BIM Academy. I also author the Xbim (eXtensible Building Information Modelling) software development toolkit that supports the creation of new BIM applications.
